It is finally here - we have snow. It started yesterday and is still falling. Not only that but there is enough to make a fairly decent Snow Chicken (7ft 7 tall). The kids were straight out of the door in the morning and not in again until lunchtime. I even had time to read my book!
We had planned to go to Bink and the Riddle of the Sphinx at the Swindon Arts Centre but that was cancelled. As a back up plan, I then decided to take the kids into London to the British Museum. Then we woke up to snow!!
Johnno of Willow Weaving fame, was holding a workshop for Home Educated kids in his 5 acre forest and he asked us if we would come along. He had invited the local news to come along and film them being Nature Detectives. They looked for animal tracks in the snow. The forest was magical. I was sure we were in Narnia!! The kids found tracks from pheasants, deer and foxes. We could tell the pheasant prints because you could see where the tail had dragged on the snow. It was a wonderful afternoon and the kids were on Points West in the evening. They are tv stars!
Callum said that it was the best day he had had since Christmas (and a whole lot cheaper!).
I woke up this morning to excited shouting about the snow that had fallen over night. The kids were prepaing to go out in it. Ewan woke and was mobbed by his brother and sisters. He must see the snow! I got out of bed (the house was freezing) and went to have a look out of the window. I felt awful disappointment for the kids. There was snow but to think that they were going to play in it was a little ambitious. There was nothing but wet on the ground and the tops of the stone walls were white (the only thing cold enough to keep the snow was the stone).
Arn't kids wonderful! Everything is an excitement. The minute I heard that there was snow I was thinking that we have a medical today and the country roads to the doctor's surgery would be a nightmare. Where did I loose that excitement?
I also tried to check the oil level on the tank. I can't see it from the house but I know it is low. I must order some oil. I don't want to be without heating in this weather. There I go again!!
